Creating a publishing company is like starting any other business. If you are creating a new entity you must:

· Name the business, protect that name and get a fictitious name statement (DBA) and consider reserving the domain name · Get a business license (if you don’t already have one for your business or if you are publishing under a new name) · Get a Federal Tax ID · Get a Seller’s Permit and register to pay sales taxes

You will need a to do most of these things to work most effectively with printers and others in the process, so it is good to get these simple things done up front while you are still working on your book.
